We are believers in holistic health and holistic medicine. This means treating the whole person with practices that address all the parts of you including physical, emotional, and spiritual.
Holistic practices are all of the different modalities and treatments outside of traditional medicine and surgery. We are not suggesting that one should abandon modern science, but rather to add to what modern science offers.
So, let’s take a look at some different examples of holistic practices.
Acupuncture is a key part of traditional Chinese medicine and has been practiced for thousands of years. It is the practice of inserting very thin needles at different points on the body.
Exercise is arguably good for everything about you including your mind and your body. We are strong proponents of exercise especially outside where you can connect with nature.
Meditation is a method of calming the mind and the body. While your doctor may not mention it while he or she is writing out a prescription, there is good evidence that it could benefit you in all kinds of ways. There are many different theories and types of meditative practice. Mindfulness meditation is one type. It’s very easy to learn and doesn’t cost anything.
There are different kinds of body manipulation, and massage is one good example. It definitely feels good, so why not add it to your be-the-best-you-can-be regimen?
The old saying, “you are what you eat” definitely has some validity. There’s no doubt that eating better will make you feel better. What you eat is part of the environment that you create which turns genes on and off. By eating better, we mean eating foods that are less processed and which have more nutritional value, eating less salt and sugar, and generally eating to satisfy hunger and not to satisfy other unmet needs.
While some types of holistic practices may be considered alternative medicine or pseudoscience, we suggest not dismissing out-of-hand practices that some cultures have used for thousands of years. We want you to be the healthiest you possible, and for that, we recommend addressing your whole being.
